Local youth football charity Robert Eaton Memorial Fund (REMF) will be presenting a cheque for more than £19,000 to Worthing United Youth FC this Sunday, October 11.
In memory of Matt Grimstone and Jacob Schilt, who died in the recent Shoreham Air Show disaster, REMF organised a charity walk from Shoreham to Worthing United FC last month. This money was pledged to Worthing United Youth FC.
Both Matt and Jacob's families have been invited on Sunday between 11.30am-12 noon to come and visit the Rotary and Hill Barn grounds to see where the money donated will be spent.
All Worthing United Youth FC's members and families plus anyone who took part in the sponsored walk are invited to come along to this event. There will probably some local media interest in the cheque presentation so there will be filming and photographs being taken. If any parent/guardian has any issues with this please inform your manager.
Brett Mendoza from the REMF charity said, "Worthing United Youth FC is a very worthy cause for this donation. Many hundreds of people attended the charity walk and raised money so we are pleased to be able to making this donation to the club."
Mark Sanderson, Chairman of Worthing United Youth FC, said, "This is an incredible amount of money raised by local people in memory of two Worthing United footballers. I would like to thank the REMF charity and everyone who has helped raise money in Matt and Jacob's names.
"Worthing United Youth FC has recently moved to its new home at the Rotary and Hill Barn recreation grounds in Worthing. This money will be wisely spent to make sure we offer our young footballers and coaches the best facilities and opportunities we can.
"This will involve improving the existing facilities we currently offer and the development of coaches and players at the club. We also have a long-term plan to build a new clubhouse on the site. This will be a long-lasting legacy for two local footballers."
